World’s End Sri Lanka

The plateau of the Horton Plains comes to a sudden end at World’s End, a stunning 880 m plunging escarpment. The walk here is 4 km, but the trail then loops back to the Falls of Baker (2 km) and goes back to the entrance (another 3.5 km). The 9.5 km round journey requires three hours of relaxation. Unless you get there pretty early, mist often obscures the perspective from World’s End, especially during the April to September rainy season.

World’s End is a popular tourist attraction in Sri Lanka and there are tours that are arranged by travel agencies as well as local tour guides who offered their services for a fee. It is best that this area is visited in the very early morning before the blankets of mist role in over the surrounding blocking the magnificent view that World’s end has to offer.

The view from World’s end is spectacular before the mist roles in and one would be able to see the lush tea plantations and tea-pluckers getting ready to start their day amidst the neatly arranged bushes of tea.

The weather up there can turn chilly and visitors are advised to take with them warm clothing. There are many affordable places to stay when you visit World’s end. Sri Lanka’s hospitality which is world renowned has the best to offer its visitors. World’s End and Horton Plains are safe to trek, due to the fact that there is no wild-life lurking around. Legend says that in the days gone by a man had killed 1,400 elephants in this area and thereafter was struck by lightning. Mother Nature’s revenge they say!
