‘Kanneliya’ an experience of wetland forest
Anyone who prefers to enjoy a peaceful and a wet environment, a vegetation, and to listen to the sound of dribbling clean water, Kanneliya rain forest is one of the ideal places in Sri Lanka.
The Kanneliya Reserve Forest is the last largest wet zone rain forest remaining in Sri Lanka other than the Sinharaja. It is accessible from Colombo, on the Southern Expressway, exiting through the Baddegama Interchange, which is about 135 kilometers on the Udugama road. It is just 35 Km Northeast of the city of Galle.
Kanneliya rain forest is one of the most valuable natural beauties of the area and it is a great attraction for tourists. Accommodation is available at the Wildlife Department’s holiday bungalow which must be allocated in advance. Food is also available at this resort for a reasonable price.
There are many features of a beautiful jungle, including a number of waterfalls in this forest area, and you can go on a hike with the help of a guide. You will also have the opportunity to enjoy a beautiful waterfall or a bathing pot. Bringing non-decaying materials like polythene and plastic into this forest is strictly prohibited.
Nature lovers are welcome to this Forest Reserve since it includes many species of fauna ,flora and birds endemic to Sri Lanka.
