Habarana Sri Lanka

It is no secret that Habarana is the hub of tourist attraction in Sri Lanka.  Habarana is a place that is loved by locals and foreigners alike and is a beautiful place to spend your holidays, enjoying the village settings, the cool climate mingled with a bit of heat as well, is what makes Habarana a place thronged by tourists both local and foreign.

Habarana is 178 kilometers away from Colombo, where branching off from Maradankadawala road and travelling a mile or two one will come across on the left the Habrana Rock, which is a part of a range of mountains. The Habarana River is also a beautiful serene and tranquil place to rest.

At the top lies a rocky plain which has its natural ponds and the relics of a large stupa which is still worshipped by villagers. Eleven of Brahmi script lies at the upper end of the rock which has been attributed to King Kaniththa Tissa (192-194), which describes a system of gauging paddy from fields pertaining to detailed persons and computations of grain tax for the reservoir. It is also inscribed how the tax should be distributed for the wellbeing of the reservoir and monasteries.

The climate and surrounding in Habarana is so serene and tranquil that it literally lures tourists to its domain. The main reason is that the Sigiriya Rock Fortress belongs to this area and is only a few miles away, where tourists can visit it with its beautiful frescoes and equally tranquil surrounding.

Habarana is also home for 5-star hotels with all facilities, but there are also hotels that cater to the low and middle income earners which are confortable and clean. Hence if you are with your family on holiday in Polonnaruwa or Dambulla, don’t fail to visit Habarana Rock.
