Ambewela Farm

Nuwara Eliya is situated in the Central Province of  Sri Lanka and lies at an altitude of 6128 ft. The weather in Nuwara Eliya is always cool with a gentle breeze blowing across the mountain range which edges this beautiful city.

Nestled in the brilliant weather and climes of Nuwara Eliya , lies the Ambewela Farm with a gentle breeze blowing across the lush meadows, where cows graze at the base of hills, taking in the coolness of the beautiful and lush climate of Nuwara Eliya.

The Ambewela Farm is just 20 km away from Nuwara Eliya and is a 45 minute journey from the town of Nuwara Eliya. The drive is a pleasant journey through farms, lakes, waterfalls and forests.

Ambewela became popular with the two dairy farms names “Ambewela Farm” and “New Zealand Farm.”  The luxuriant view of tea plantations that is dotted on either side of the roadway, gives visitors a sense of tranquility and wellness.  The Ambewela Farm is a brainwave of the British and was set up 80 years ago and the New Zealand Farm was set up in 1960. The Ambewela Farm does not open its doors to visitors, but the New Zealand Farm does for a nominal entrance fee.

Although the farm is not a tourist attraction it is indeed becoming a popular place for visitors who like a remarkable experience.

The farm is a beautiful arena of 1500 acres of lush greenery and herds of cows could be seen as far as the eye reaches. The atmosphere with cows grazing lazily gives a sense of tranquility and well-being to visitors. Once visitors are within the perimeters of this farm, it immediately gives a feeling of being in a foreign land, where pretty cottages of staff are dotted around and European cows graze languidly in the lush greenery of the meadows.
